Originally the team was appointed to complete an alternative use study, together with a condition survey report relating to the state of the building fabric of the Grade II Lambton Castle. A more detailed quinquennial inspection report was commissioned shortly after, forming the basis of the extensive repair project.

The exterior of the building had fallen into significant disrepair, with the majority of the castle un-habitual. In 2007, work began on the building fabric repairs, focused on essential repairs to the roof coverings, stonework and external redecoration. Following completion, after numerous technical and practical challenges overcome by the team, English Heritage classed the castle as no longer ‘at risk’.
